Standard single-pane windows are wonderful weather barriers, but they are not necessarily great insulators. IGUs go a step further, helping to prevent heat loss in winter or excessive heat gain in summer.
IGUs work by incorporating a cavity (usually a vacuum or inert gas) between two or more panels of glass. Since the inner cavity is a poor conductor of energy, the entire IGU acts as an excellent insulation system, meaning less energy is transferred between the interior and exterior of the building.
IGUs are not new – they have been used for premium glazing applications since the 1930s – but at AIG we use the world’s newest technologies and best materials to optimise the effectiveness of every unit we make.
